networking question about speed, plz read carefully? - Novak O i have a wirless N router, and i just bought a trendnet wirless pci adapter http://www.amazon.com/TRENDnet-TEW-643PI-Version-Wireless-Adapter/dp/B001FB5TTA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top it won't go past 54 mpbs, anyreason y? it should go past 54, my rouer is in N mode and i have a wpa encryption.

Best Answer: Just a guess your ISP can not deliver that speed anyhow -

vista only supports up to 54 mb and trendnet is garbage for future reference

It's completely possible you have an incompatability between your router and the TrandNet card - N isn't a finalized standard and there are cases of incompatability out there usually resulting in lower than optimal speeds. Specifically with your card I've seen comments about not exceeding 54Mbps and even more about not exceeding 150Mbps. Check for known issues with your router; try another card that's the same make as your router; try updating the bios in the router. - jp_dfw

in your routers settings set it to wireless n mode and then you should get the higher speed. it is only at 54mbps because it is set to work with wireless G if you change it to N it wont be backwards capable but you will have more bandwidth for networked computers. - 1411

It's most likely your ISP putting a limit on bandwidth.
