Psych Grad Why is my N wireless router only sending out a 150mbps signal? it claims to have a 300 mbps? - Psych Grad I bought he WL ROUTER TRENDNET|TEW-631BRP 300M routher from newegg.com recently. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833156052 and I went through all the setup cd and my pc and laptop is recognizing the wireless signal as only 150 mbps. Is there some trick or option to speed it up? The pc and laptop both are compatible with wireless N signals. I am living on a university campus in family housing, so the internet connection is provided through the university and should have no problem reaching those speeds. My neighbor, who is using the same connection, said he's getting a 300 mbps signal. Any ideas of why this might be? Is it the router? Is there an option in the pc I need to change?
Best Answer: what wireless channel are you on? If you and your neighbor are on the same channel it will cause interference and your connection will slow down. Try and change your channel that might do it. - virgil
hi My N router supports 270mbp max. But the one caviat with N routers so far ( i tried 2 so far) is that the farther apart you are from the router, the slower the speed. I have to almost have a direct view of the router between pc and router in order to get max thruput. So I suggest moving your laptop around you room and see if you can find a place where your bandwidth would increase. Other than that, just moving the router closer to your room would be the only other option. Oh, you could double check the bandwith your pc is handling. If N signal is going out in 5.4 ghz and your laptop is only listening to 2.4ghz, then you might be slowed down by your laptop setup. But doubt it. Check with your laptop manufacturer to ensure your wifi setup is set for listening to both 5.4 and and 2.4 signals without problems (some laptops are more problematic than others) Good luck - R A
It doesn't really matter your internet connection is probably only using 2Mbps which wouldn't even come close to 150Mbps or 300Mbps. - Nimz
