Does using several different wireless adapters with different speeds affect the performance of my network? -

I have a number of devices on my wireless home network. They use adapters ranging from 802.11b through 802.11g and all the way up to several draft N devices. The router is a draft N router from Buffalo Technologies. I'm pretty disappointed with the range of my network and lousy transfer speeds (especially between N devices) and I was wondering if the variety of different types of devices might be a factor. I can say that I don't think network traffic is an issue, because although I have a lot of devices on the network (TiVos, several PCs and a Wii) they are rarely accessing the network at the same time.
