Question and Answers

Why would my Flat Screen be blacking out? - I have a 3 year old SVA monitor, its been great to me for over a year now ( i did not purchase it the year it was made) But now all of a sudden when it comes out of power save mode or i turn it back on from being off it blacks out repeatedly for anywhere from 2-10 minutes before it goes back to normal. i just replaced the RVG cord, so i know it isnt that. i dont think its the power cord since its just fine running for hours at a time as long as it doesnt go into power save or gets turned off. ive done a bit of reasearch on it to see what other problems ppl say about their LCD monitors going out but nothing seems to fit with my problems. Could this be a matter of the backlight needing replaced? im not getting any of the red lines of magnetized looking stuff, just blacking out after it comes back on from being off. Its a 17" LCD SVA monitor made in mid 2006. Ive never had any other problem with it before except the RVG going bad, which as previously stated was replaced and i havent had an issue with that since. there are no pixel problems, and no lines. Runs great when its "warmed up" and shows my World of Warcraft Graphics very well ( at least for a non HD monitor) Can anyone help? or gimme advice?
Best Answer: The symptoms you describe is consistent with either the backlight (the lamp that provides illumination for the LCD screen) or the inverter (power and control electronics for the screen) failing. Backlights and inverters in LCD monitors do wear out over time, so what you are experiencing is not uncommon. Repair costs for those items vary, but most of the time it's more economical to just buy a new monitor. - aviatingamateur
Is this an NEC monitor? They have a known problem where the power-control relay fails, causing the monitor to go into a mode that's between power saving mode and normal mode. I've repaired several 2010Xs either by replacing the relay as explained in the link or by bypassing it (which disables power saving). - JoelKatz
your flat screen is blacking out because of the fact that manufactures of electronics implement built in obsolescence to ensure renewed sales of that product so just get yourself a replacement and be happy - litlfitz
Maby you could take it to best buy, and get it repaired
might be time for a new one.i read my manual and it said the back lights or whatever they call them only last 50,000 hours.that doesnt seem like alot of hours too me.not sure you can replace them either. mines an hd1900 - Kung Fu Panda
Sounds like the backlight is failing. That's the only thing I can think of based on your diagnosis.
