Question and Answers

I am looking for a home theatre system under $300. Already have a blu-ray player, so don't need that.? - I need a 5.1 or lower system since I hate wires and my apartment is pretty small. Should I go for an A/V receiver separately from the speakers for a better deal? or buy an Onkyo set or something together? I also ideally want an iPod dock, is there anyway for me to implement that myself if I buy a system without iPod dock, or it has to come pre-implemented? Thanks in advance!
Best Answer: Sounds like you're halfway there. Definitely stay away from home theater in a box systems that aren't based on a receiver. They are severly limited when it comes to connection options. For $300 I would recommend the Onkyo HT-S3200. The 6200 is better since it allows all audio and video to be passed via HDMI rather than through separate cables, but it's more expensive. Another option you should consider is the Onkyo TX-SR507 5.1 receiver (which will handle audio and video both via HDMI) and a 5.1 speaker set, like something from Polk (i.e. RM6750), Energy or Klipsch (i.e. HD300). That system would be better than any other HTIB, but it would be about twice what you want to spend. Onkyo TX-SR507 - $315 Polk RM6750 - $215 Docks for iPods cost a bit. I just bought a 2.5mm to RCA adapter. I can't control the iPod with my remote, but it still plays through the stereo and I saved $95. - Peter D
