Tito's Pin-Up Hi will my PS3 games will it upscale to 1080P? - Tito's Pin-Up Hi I have 52"Sony Bravia HDTV LCD 1080P 120Hz & many of my PS3 games has 720P label on back of the case. I do know that all Xbox 360 games supports 1080P. Anyway, will my PS3 games upscale to 1080P? Thanks!
Best Answer: Everything sickcallaway said, and this: Just because a game says 1080p on the box does NOT mean the game plays in 1080p. This is true for both the Xbox and the PlayStation. Take Metal Gear Solid, for example. The game says 1080p on the back of the box, but the game is actually played in 720p. The cut scenes are in 1080p, which is why the box says 1080p. The same holds true for 360 games. A game playing in 1080p and having content displayed in 1080p is not the same thing. - adidasĀ®
720p is the default resolution for many games (mainly earlier games), you can upscale it by going to the system settings menu on Home. - OLYVAr
Wrong about the 360 and 1080p. The 360 UPSCALES to 1080p. This is different from being NATIVE 1080p. NATIVE 1080p means the game is literally developed to display in 1080p. Very very few 360 games are developed with NATIVE 1080p. The same goes for PS3 games. In fact, I believe only the PS3 exclusives are the only games that have NATIVE 1080p. Pretty much all the multiplatform games have NATIVE 720p. All the Call of Duty games have had NATIVE 720p as far as I know. Some might allow you to UPSCALE to 1080p but UPSCALE does not look as good as NATIVE since UPSCALE is essentially stretching out the picture. Sorry to use caps, but I don't think you fully understand the difference between the two and what both consoles do in terms of native and upscaling. I believe the 360 uses its hardware for upscaling purposes, while the PS3 relies on the game developer to support it. Also, native 1080p takes a very long time to develop into a game, which is why you're more than likely only gonna see it natively on the exclusives for a good part of the foreseeable future (since the exclusives already get tons of development time as it is). Upscaling to 1080p has been fairly common from the get-go, so a lot of games will give you that option. Sports games are primarily the only ones that won't offer 1080p upscaling (since sports with a ball usually look terrible with 1080p). - sickcallaway (Sarcastic Joker)
