Question and Answers

patman Analog RCA cables/ speaker splitter? - patman I have an old tv, and a Quest speaker selector. My stereo (with 5 speakers) hooks up to the speaker selector. I want to hook my tv up to the selector as well so the tv sound will come over the stereo speakers. the only possible way to do this is to take an analog RCA audio cable (one with Left and Right only), connect it to my tv and then strip the cables at the other end for my speaker selector. I don't know how to do this because when i stripped the ends, there is one insulated cable and one non insulated (for the left side cable, and the exact same for the right side). What do i do? what's the insulated one for? how do i connect it?
Best Answer: If your tv has rca red and white audio outputs - that output is usually not speaker level output but line level output. Therefore it cannot go directly to speakers. It has to be amplified first. However since you do not say what brand/model of tv you have I cannot be sure. If it is line level output you will have to route the wires to your amp and not your speakers. - gkk_72
