LostBoy24 Data plan on iphone and changing to another phone void contract ? - LostBoy24 Here is my situation: I have a Samsung flip phone (my old one). I just upgraded and bought an iphone 3G. Now here is what I want to do: I have decided that the iphone really isn't for me. I really don't want to return it because im going to just end up wasting money on the restocking fee and the prorated fee I also paid for it. So what I would like to do is call at&t up and ask them to re register my old phone with them and just use it again. Will this be possible? I guess all they are going to do is be removing the data plan from the line. Is this possible without voiding the contract and being subject to their early termination fee? I KNOW that the data plan is required when you want to use the iphone on at&t's network and I understand that as I WILL NOT be using it for a phone.
Best Answer: Go into the store and explain to them that you no longer want to use your i phone. They should be able to register your old phone's IMIE number and you can then take off the data plan. If you decide to put your Sim card in the i phone at any time at&t will be able to tell that it has been inserted into an i phone and they will add the data plan. - ThatOneKid
bad news i have an iphone 3g on Rogers network in canada (pretty much AT&T) i broke my iphone and i asked if i got a sony ericsson if i could just put in my sim card and go and the guy freaked out like "No! you need to terminate the contract and get a whole new plan!!!!" they are retarded at phone places. just stick with the iphone, they are amazing. - Samantha
