Yes! I got the older brother, the SX1, and it's become very useful for vacations. When I work, I shoot DSLR... but when I'm on vacation, I want to be able to relax and not have to lug around all my equipment. The SX20 has a built in lens with great zoom, so you don't have to carry around so many lenses. It's definitely a good buy. - Sakura

It isn't the megapixels that matter. In fact, too many megapixels just add noise. What makes this a nice compact are the features. It has a nice ISO range for a compact. I wouldn't shoot a compact higher than 1600 ISO anyway because the images get too noisy. It has a great zoom range. You will be able to go from a wide angle scenery shot to a nice super-telephoto shot. It has image stabilization which helps to keep your images from getting blurry from camera shake. You can manual focus when the autofocus is having problems locking on your subject. The max aperture range is amazing for how long the zoom is. You will be able to get some nice blurred backgrounds in your portraits. The shutter speeds are good. The camera can take an external flash which is a big selling point for me. It will make a huge difference from the built-in flash. Also the camera has aperture and shutter priority modes which will give you so much more control over your shooting. Definitely study up on exposure and depth of field to really get the most out of this camera and you will be very satisfied with the results. Even if it gives you the range to photograph something the image quality would be so bad that you would be very disappointed. If I were looking into buying a compact, I would give this one serious consideration. As someone else pointed out, yes the file size will be large, but still smaller than those from a DSLR and large enough to make nice large prints from. I would imagine you could make nice 11x14 and perhaps even larger sized prints from the photos from this camera. Memory cards are relatively inexpensive. Check prices at B&H for the camera and for memory cards. I would buy a couple of 2-4GB cards as cheap as you can get them now. - casperskitty

12.1 megapixel resolution, a 720p HD video capability and an HDMI connection to facilitate playback of images on an HDTV. It's overkill when it comes to my vacations.... I'd say it is good enough as far as most anyones vacations. Not a pocket camera as I would prefer but it definitely will do most everything a vacationer would want...takes great digital photos. storage size is very large.. too large for emails and overkill for putting on websites.
