my friend told me that her HP laptop is a piece of junk, she said shes only had it for a year and a half and its been worked on 5 tims... so this is beginning to worry me.. /:

Which computer would you buy if you were me?

For MS Word, Powerpoint, and Internet and other typical female college student stuff like iTunes or movies (no games). I have another computer at home, so this would mainly be my back and forth computer.
Also, I'm aware I would need an external CD drive and to purchase MS Office on top of this, so I'm just giving you the basics without all that.

Will I be able to tell a difference between a 1.5 ghz cpu processor and a 1.7ghz?

My Dell B130 laptop has a 1.5 in it now, I have upgraded the ram, I can only upgrade the cpu to a 1.7 ($15 on eBay)....will it make much diff.?

I have not connection to Internet in one of my 2 laptops ...both are using the same router...but suddenly..?

but suddenly one laptop has not connection but you can see the icon CONNECTED and with full signal..but when you try to go to some page like yahoo.com its says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" thats happend for every single page that you try to go...what can I do to fix that??

Sony Vaio W series, HP Mini 110, or HP Mini 311.
I'm planning to use it for school, basically to go to and from school and use Powerpoint, Word, and Internet. Occasionally I'll use iTunes or a DVD player when I travel.

My laptop just made a cracking/sizzling sound?

I was typing on Microsoft Word and all of a sudden I heard this weird noise coming from my computer like a sizzling sound or cracking sound.. I can't really explain it, it's like a combination of those two sounds. at first i thought it might be some wierd insect somewhere near my laptop so i jumped and then i kept hearing it so i looked and didn't see anything..(insect wise). And it lasted like 10 seconds. Then just now I heard it again..it's really scaring me. Whats wrong with my laptop???
its a sony vaio. and the battery isn't hot or anything. it's room temperature. i left it on for almost 24 hours but plugged in, but then i turned it off for liek 2 hours so i dont think it was that. it's never done this before. whats going on??

How much RAM is necessary for Windows 7?

I'm looking into getting a mini laptop, probably a VAIO W series or HP mini. They both come with Windows 7 Starter, but only 1 GB of RAM. Is that enough?
I would be adding MS Office to it, but other than that I would only be using Firefox, iTunes, and a DVD-player software.
I guess I'm asking if it would run fast or would it be sluggish? Like, is 1 GB the minimum or is it sufficiently enough?

When I close my laptop lid sometimes?

when I shut down the laptop it's sitting on an extra fan stand that I bought for it, so it will not get over heated faster it does work perfect, but I noticed the left side of my lid when I close it down will make a click noise, because its not balanced? right that's what I was thinking never done it before and it can't really hurt the lid can it.?
Another question - when you put the lid down does it fully touch or is there some space for air to breath through?
