Setting UP a home network from scratch? - Brian Mango
I want to rebuild my home network software from the ground up. I dont want to pay a fortune for it though. I really do prefer Linksys for all my network hardware.
I have many devices that will be hooked up to my network:

Xbox 360
Playstation 3
TiVo Cable Box
2 Windows Vista PC's
2 Windows XP PC's (One on Pro and one on Home)
And a wired HP OfficeJet printer that I would like to connect to the network so everyone can print.

What hardware would I need so that all of these devices can connect to each other and share data? I would really like Wireless-N Linksys technology.
All of it is wireless except the printer!

Installing a printer on a laptop? - BOTTES
Hello,

My computer monitor recently decided to stop turning on so I'm trying to figure out a way to get my printer hooked up to my laptop. I assumed it was as easy as unplugging it, then plugging the USB cable into my laptop. I thought it was working because it brough up a found new hardware window, but then asked me for the disc (which I don't have) then proceeded to tell me that no device driver software could be found (something like that).

I'm just wondering if there would be a way to do this without having the original installation disc from the printer. My dog ate it. Not joking either guys. By the way, the printer is a HP Deskjet F4100.

Any help would be appreciated!

Does a wireless printer have to be connected by cable to at least one PC? - Matt
I'm looking to make extra room on my desk, and moving the printer would free up a lot of space, so I was thinking of getting a wireless printer, but wanted to know if the wireless printer would still have to be hooked up to at least one PC or if it would operate as a stand alone for all of the computers without the USB cable. Thanks for your help friends!

Why don't my scanned photos show up? - Liebe.des.Lebens
I spent a long time scanning photos from my Epson Artisan 810 Printer to my memory card in my camera. My memory card is a SanDisk Ultra II, 4GB. I don't have a cable to hook my computer to my printer, so I figured that putting it on my memory card would be best. Then, I would be able to put the memory card in my camera (Cannon PowerShot), hook my camera into my Mac and download the pictures in iPhoto.

However, when I put my memory card in my camera, none of the pictures that I scanned onto the memory card showed up. Even when I plugged the camera into my computer, my computer doesn't see them either. But, when I plug the memory card back into the printer and hit "view photos", they are there! So, I'm wondering how I can fix this problem and download them onto my computer.

Is it because my pictures on my computer are JPG and the printer put them in JPEG? I thought they were the same, but maybe not? Also, as a last resort, is it possible to take the memory card to a drugstore and maybe get a photo cd of them? Do they still do that?

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

My computer is always disconnecting me from my wireless network - how do I fix this? - Kate
We have 2 PCs in our office, one which is hardwired and has the modem and router hooked up to it, and mine which connects to the internet wirelessly. My internet connection used to stay on all the time, but now if I leave it for about a half hour, I come back to it and it's kicked me off the network. Also my mouse is frozen on the screen and it makes a sound like it's disconnecting and reconnecting an external device. The mouse wakes back up after a minute and I can log back onto my wireless network. I thought the problem may be security (b/c we weren't using any) so I enabled (I believe) a WEP code. This didn't help either.

Another problem I have is that I can't get the 2 computers on a home network so that I can use another printer or the files on the other computer. But I haven't ever been able to get that working, even after using the Windows Network Wizard.

Oh yeah, I'm running on Windows Vista - HP desktop - Linksys G Router - Cable Internet...hope this is enough info!

Thanks!

How can I boost my BT Voyager wireless router? - Simon
I have a BT Voyager 2091-E4 wireless router but it is located in our office at one end of the house (in order to be connected by ethernet cable to our printer to enable wireless printing). However, the router signal will not cover whole house. It currently covers around 20-30m. We could do with another 20m or so. Part of the problem is that it is an old house and one of the intervening walls is thick (clay lump). We used to have the router in the middle of the house but had to move it to sit near the printer. Any ideas? Can we add a second router in the old position and hook it up?

Solutions welcome!
Thanks for the tips.

What about simply getting another Voyager and setting it up in the middle of the house. Can I run my wireless network off two Voyager routers?

When setting up a wireless printer, should I hook it up to the desktop or the laptop first? - Alwaysneedinghelp
We recently purchased a new printer that is wireless. It will be for a laptop (wireless connection) and a desktop (cable). What is the best/easiest way to set it up? Should I start with installing it on the desktop and then move to the laptop, or is it my own preference?

Please help setup file/printer sharing for laptop & PC w/ Linksys router/cable modem!!? - karmaa
I listed another question but the 2 answers received mentioned things in the question or did not mention how to do this at all.

I have a pc hooked up to a cable modem and Linksys router. Internet connection works for both & router has WPA/WPA2 security set up. I have tried and failed to set up file/printer sharing. I do not have a disk for the printer but my main concern is the file sharing so please help me with STEP #1 to get this to work. I ran the sharing/network wizard and even then picked folders to share that now showed hand to share but laptop cannot get the pc files.

- Is there a way to set up file sharing to allow access to any file without clicking on individual files to share?

- Should running this wizard be all it takes to do this - setting up different names for each computer, etc.

********** BEFORE answering please:
- main concern is file sharing
- have run wizard and laptop was unable to access pc files
- I HAVE FILE/PRINTER SHARING CHECKED UNDER CONTROL PANEL SECURITY SETTING TO ENABLE IT
-
What is the problem? Can you please tell me each step to file sharing - as if I never did anything please - also do I have to select which files to share? I am not saying the router or anything IS the problem - I don't know what is - just giving you the info to help if you can - thanks.

Please - need help and access to these files - thanks!!

cable to hook up printer w a parallel port to a pc with usb connection? - l_cintron
I have an old HP Laser-jet 3100 all in one printer. It has the old parallel port though which no new computers have anymore. I've been searching for an adapter that w convert the parallel port to a usb connection. All the ones I have found have the wrong size parallel port, too big. This is a small connector.
