In spite of some of the reviews I have read online, we purchased the HP 4670 for use in our home/business. We purchased it from NewEgg.com at a great price, and it arrived in the original retail box with no damage, and three days early, thanks to FedEx Express Saver shipping. We immediately opened it, fearing the worst, as described in some of the DOA reports we read. However, after following the HP Quick Start poster, we were scanning photos in 10 minutes. The HP 4670 is remarkably quiet, and did a very good scan of a professional photo at its default 200 dpi. We tried enlargement and manipulation of a 1200 dpi scan, and we are well pleased. We don't expect a $160 scanner to perform the same as a $500 unit, so we are not disappointed. We agree that the HP packaged software is barebones, but it loaded into Windows XP Professional without a hiccup, and meshes nicely with our HP Photosmart 7960 printer which uses the same basic software. The HP 4670 looks cool, takes much less desktop space and is very flexible. Fortunately we have not had to deal with the HP Customer Service lady in India (the one with English as a third language), so we have no complaints.
