Problems with on/off switch and battery error!!!05/13/06

I got this camera from a friend of mine who was totally disgusted with it. The only 90 day-warranty has expired and the camera will not turn on using the lens slide cover. The problem is that there is a small- less than 1 cm rectangular magnet- embeded in the slide cover just to the right side of the "HP" logo and above the "M22" marking, the magnet activates a metallic reed switch on the circuit board when the slide is move to the right to "turn on" the camera and take pictures also exposing the lens. When the slide is moved to the left, the reed switch contacts are off. In my case I replaced the magnet with a larger size and this fixed the no power problem. Second problem is "Battery Low" warning even on a fully charged NiMh batteries shows up. Needs a fix for this.
