We have 4 digital camera's in my family. Believe me, this one has the longest battery life out of all of them. My old Minolta goes through 4 AA's about every 20 pictures. If you have rechargables and keep an extra set with you, you should be all set. All digital cameras eat batteries for lunch, that's simply the nature of the beast.
Also, all digital camera's come with a teeny tiny card. That's known as "out of the box" memory. So you can try it when you pull it out from under the Christmas tree. Memory cards are cheap enough, a 256Mb holds plenty.
I also think that the software that is included is the best by far that comes with cameras. Keeps pictures very organized. The only drawback is that you can't really enhance too easily but I have Adobe for that so it's not an issue.
I really wanted the Cannon Elph but couldn't spend the money. I'm very pleased with this camera.
