Finding free WIFI

I am computer literate but not a techie and I have no desire to have a cell phone as they impress me as the world's most intrusive devices. However, as a constant traveler, I like being in touch without hauling a computer around. Voila! The perfect device. I have access, movies and music for long flights, and look like part of the 21st century without the annoyance of a phone. If only more places provided a wireless network! Big hotels seem to be the greediest now but that will likely change over time. For me, it is the prefect device.
