Price: 214.95 - 329.99
Bottom Line, $220 Well Spent (Shop to find price) I always knew I could take the photos THAT I SAW, but wasn't getting, even with my Canon SLR. And having a very good telephoto allows shots I missed before.
The photo quality ranges from 'pretty good' to very good. But you need to study the user guide (I'm still reading) to assure that you take full advantage of the features,,, IF You DON"T want to read, don't buy it. Reading the guide is a task. I don't feel it's easy to read (assumes you already knew something); I wish it came with a "hands-on" DVD giving at least some instruction.
Batteries: Use long-lasting Lithium -- it's WORTH the extra cost. Be sure to carry an extra pair WITH you camera. If you MUST review your pics using the camera's feature you'll eat-up your battery power faster!
I like the video quality, considering I don't use it for my "primary" video.
It is just a tad more bulky than a little pointNshoot, but the lens hides itself very well when the camera is shut-off; and the lens is covered automatically. I often carry it in the front pocket of my levis, or carry it nicely in a small belt pouch.
The display screen is very good. I tried the plastic sheeting protecters, but that didn't save it from some small scratches I gave it while I was crawling around in a WWII B-17 Flying Fortress during flight. There's got to be a better material.
There are 2 separate control dials - one on top and one on back of the camera. I have trouble remembering to reset the top one.
I haven't used Support, so I based my rating on past use.
Personally, I want a larger camera, with higher megapixels, and the ability to change lenses. BUT THIS CAMERA is keeping me HAPPY right now!
I saved my 'rant' for last: I'm in my 60's, so I saw idiotic things done in Viet Nam. One of the biggest idiotic stunts was to build a new fighter, the F-4 Phantom, with only missiles -- NO machine guns; when they found this a MAJOR mistake (because they were a MUST in dogfights -- and the enemy had them and were using them -- they had to mount a machine gun 'pod' on a brand-new aircraft! I equate the stupidity of removing the viewfinder from most digital cameras! When you are out it the bright sun there is no way to see your subject clearly! A viewfinder DOES THAT! I can't believe how many action shots I've missed. And I WILL GRIPE TO CANON!
