Disney Mobile, which is working to position itself as the ideal cell phone service for 'tweens and their parents, has updated its phone selection and added some services for parents who want to have some control over the calls their children make and the content they download on cell phones.

At CTIA Wireless, the spring conference where the latest phones are unveiled, Disney and Samsung announced a new handset in the Disney lineup: the DM-S105 in metallic silver and the pictured metallic pink version (DM-S110) that lots of girls would opt for, no doubt. Again, both handsets appear as if they would pass muster with 'tweens who have definite ideas about what a cool phone is and what a little-kid phone looks like. Each is a dual-band/Tri-Mode Sprint PCS phone, and comes with a VGA camera, Bluetooth capability, as well as text and picture messaging capability.

One new thing about the handsets is they come preloaded with the tools to access Disney Mobile's Call Control feature directly from the parent's handset—which means parents can set calling time and contact restrictions from their handsets in addition to doing so on the Disney Mobile web site. The price of the handsets is not yet determined, but a Disney Mobile spokeswoman said they will be Disney Mobile's entry-level handsets.

To give you an idea on plan costs, family plans (two lines) start at $60 for 450 minutes; additional handsets can be added for $10 a month. If you want to try out the service, there's a kid starter plan for one phone for $25 a month for 200 minutes.

Disney also has added a "location scout" option, which allows phone users to search for points of interests, such as stores and restaurants. Once identified, the point of interest can be seen on a map and directions to and from can be accessed. Of course, this added featured comes with an added subscription fee. (Pricing is not yet available.)

In December, Disney also added the Pantech DM-P205 to its handset lineup. You'll find it for $100 with a $100 rebate on the Disney Mobile web site. Disney's signature red LG DM-L200 is selling for $50 after a $100 instant rebate and a $50 mail-in rebate.

If anyone has been using Disney's service, let us know what you think.

I have been using Disney Mobile's service for about six months. The major downside to their service is that the call control feature cannot stop the kids from sending text and pix messages even if you give them a set amount. The phone needs to be conpletely turned off from the web site. The only thing that their call control allows you to do is et phone numbers that are off limits or always on and alert you when your child has reached his/her limit. Other than that, the locate feature is great.
