The dads at DadLabs are gearing up for Father's Day with a new DVD—"Due Dads: The Man's Survival Guide to Labor and Delivery" ($25), the second in their "Due Dads" series.

Clay Nichols and Brad Powell are the Austin, Texas dads behind DadLabs, a web site for new and evolving dads. The focus is on funny, with some humorous videos, and some very informative how-to videos and articles. One site favorite is a beautifully done "how to make a birth video" video that is spare on images, which makes it pretty powerful.

If you or the new dad in your life hasn't checked DadLabs out yet, do so. The content is engaging. You'll find good parenting tips, creative videos, podcasts, a well-written movie review on "Knocked Up"... . The pair is working on some site changes to make reviews on baby gear a big part of what will be a multi-channel site for dads.

There are blogs on the site, but Clay Nichols told me they opted to emphasize videos because they think dads are more likely to click on videos—and funny ones at that—to get some parenting advice. "Message boards seem less effective on the guy side," Nichols said. "Video is more a guy's style." They add one or two fresh videos a week. Look for one featuring an art historian to help parents sift through and decide which kids' art projects to keep once they spill from backpacks.

As for gear, the tech items on the DadLabs list of top 10 items for new or expecting dads are an Apple iMac and a Canon Powershot SD600 digital camera. Recently, Nichols said he added one more to his personal list: a Garmen Nuvi 660 GPS receiver to help get him to his son's sport events and friends' birthday parties on time. "My son has no faith in my ability to find anything," Nichols says. With the portable GPS unit, his son no longer asks, "Do you know where you're going?" quite as much.

Could you guys start giving gift ideas for people that are at a reasonable cost? Every single gift idea I found for my dad was in the 200-600 range. I dont have that sort of money to spend on my father but I would have really liked to get some affordable ideas. You should do a cool tech things under 50 for dads. - This isnt specifically aimed at this particular advisor- all of them in general.
