If you've got kids in school, no doubt you've had your fill of back-to-school fundraisers. The gift wrap. Magazines. Frozen food you don't really want your kids to eat but you've got to support the marching band during the month of September....

We all want to support our own schools, but I was inspired to help other schools when I came across Gina Trapani's challenge on Lifehacker to help bloggers raise $1 million during October for education projects in public schools in need of some extra funding. The drive is called LitLiberation, and its taking place through DonorsChoose.org, a wonderful not-for-profit web site that allows public school teachers to submit project proposals for materials and experiences their students need to learn.

The proposals are vetted by a DonorsChoose.org volunteers, who follow up with the public school teachers. What's nice is it doesn't all end with the click of a contribution. The teachers are required to take photos of the students participating in the funded projects, and the teacher and students write notes to the donors about the projects, so you can see how your contribution affected the class.
