Kajeet has added the Samsung m300 handset to its phone selections, and another new phone will be added soon, the cell phone service designed for 'tweens and teens has announced.
The additions to kajeet's lineup come after Disney announced it was getting out of the family phone business; the company is negotating with major carriers to license its Family Center features, which help parents and kids set time and money limits on phone use.
Unlike Disney, kajeet didn't build specially branded handsets or its own content, choosing instead to partner with cell phone companies and content providers that appeal to its market. The company's success has been its unique pay-as-you-go approach to service charges and content, and its easy-to-use and understand online management tools.
For paying parents, there are no long-term contracts, no activation or termination fees, no roaming or long-distance fees—no surprises. It's an approach I've been very happy with for my daughter's first cell phone. So far, so good.
kajeet's CEO and co-founder Daniel Neal said by not building their own handsets, content, or stores, "we purposefully developed strong relationships with established partners that greatly appeal to our customers. That enables us to stay focused on serving the market well and staying nimble in a highly competitive, complex business."
The Samsung m300 costs $80, while kajeet offers handsets ranging from $50 to $100. It has a 4X zoom digital lens, internal and external color LCD displays, and a red finish.
Kajeet's phone are still available in Best Buy, Limited Too, Longs Drugs, and on kajeet.com. But more retail options are expected soon.
