I love Web Worker Daily since it often speaks to me—a worker who spends most of the day on the web, working from home in a solo office. But the advice dished out on the site applies to all workers, especially these tips about how to break out of a rut and recharge creativity.
Even when busy schedules and deadlines don't let up, we can all fall into a bit of a rut. Since I've fallen out of my exercise routine, Web Worker Daily's #1 tip hits home, and I plan to do something about it this week:
Get Physical: "Get up out of that chair, go jogging, get out to the gym, take a swim, bike around the lake, shovel manure for an hour, do something. Working up a sweat gives your subconscious a chance to idle for a while, and as a bonus, it's good for your body."
It's something I vow to get back to this week, especially since a mild October in the East has made for some spectacular days which leave no excuse for not moving outside.
Check out the link to the post for more inspiration, including taking some time to feed your brain something different, either from reading material off the beaten track (go to the library, bookstore) or calling or meeting with people you haven't seen in a while. A few hours outside my office chatting with other writers and editors always helps stir my creative juices.
How do you clear the decks and pull out of work ruts? Share and we'll make it productive, creative week.
