Gizmodo posted an interesting story with the headline "Study Says 75% of Women Don't Know How to Use Gadgets". According to the Evening Times, UK electronics retailer Comet conducted a 1,000 customer study that lead them to believe that their stores needed "Gadget Angels", an all-female team of experts who are trained to break down female "technofear."
Their study noted the following:
I can't speak for all, but I've never met a man who admits to reading a manual, while I do it. When I go to electronic stores, I watch and listen how women ask questions about certain gadgets. Most of the time, they are given very basic information that doesn't even begin to touch the surface.
Learning about technology is not something anyone can do overnight. We all have the same resources available online on how to use any gadget, but most women I know don't have a lot of time on their hands either. So I'll pass this on to you, do you think this survey is correct? Are you techno savvy or techno challenged? What are some things stores can do to help the techo challenged?

Too bad the pollster didn't ask me or my friends, whose ages range from 62, to 69 (mine) and up--to a very savvy friend of 92. They might have found that little terrifies us at our age. Certainly not the tech gadgets that are not only fun, but which enhance our daily lives. With instant communication, even health or transportation problems don't keep us down. Sure beats the Pony Express! Believe us, we make the most of these opportunities, even though it's sometimes hard to get a few salespeople (or worse, tech support people) to take us seriously...at first. Luckily for me (and him) my knowledable son is wise enough to fill that gap.
