Cell Phones Are Dirtier Than You Think

Is your face breaking out more often than not? This could be attributed to your beautiful, shiny, top-of-the-line cell phone, that according to Personal Tech Pipeline's Mike Elgan, is a breeding ground for worst types of bacteria including "Staphylococcus aureus, which can cause illnesses from pimples and boils to pneumonia and meningitis and is a close relative of the superbug MRSA."

The Daily News says phones harbor more bacteria than a toilet seat, the bottom of your shoe or door handle. Makes sense since cell phones come into contact with our dirty hands everyday, are close to our mouth, and we rarely pay attention where we lay them down. Electronics also operate at high temperatures, therefore providing a warm place for bacteria to live in.

Besides using hand sanitizer, you could also outfit your phone with a Skin mobile skin that protect against water, mud, paint, sweat and snow, and are interchangeable. These condom-like skins roll over your phone to keep it shielded from the elements, and are disposable.

I think Penn & Teller need to test this cell phone story out.

The "Skins" that are introduced in this article, are not available in the United States and a few other countries.

Having seen some pretty dirty cell phones, I have always tried to give mine a good cleaning each day. I'm glad to have my habit seconded. In additional to halting the spread of disease, it also makes seeing the pictures a lot easier.

So what should we use to clean our phones with? Spray them with Lysol?

Makes sense, and is disgusting! I'd like to buy a "skin", but I checked out the website, and was not able to connect for USA purchases. What's up? Please inform. Thanks.

I would spray some 401 or some kind of anti-bacterial cleaner on a paper towel and wipe down the phone... or at least that is what I am going to start doing.

This is nothing new for cell phones or a regular house phone, heck even your tv remote. Just wipe them down with a wet wipe/antibacterial wipe.
