Would You Ever Host a Taser Party?

If you're a woman, you've probably been invited to an Avon, Pampered Chef, or Passion party before. They're actually a great way to shop and hang out with the girls while you sip wine and enjoy tasty hors d'oeuvres. But the ladies in Phoenix, Ariz., are replacing the Tupperware parties with something a lot more shocking: taser parties.

Lynne Rigberg hosted what seems to be one of the first "taser parties" ever. She even invited an off-duty law enforcement officer, who demoed the nonlethal weapon to her friends. Afterward, the ladies were allowed to look and handle the devices, which are available in pink, blue, and other colors. The strangest thing was that a news crew was on the scene to capture the event that now has people everywhere scratching their heads.

I have a feeling this won't be the last taser party we hear about, since metallic pink taser guns are all the rage. Ms. Rigberg seems to think taser guns "make you more confident" in certain situations where you might be uncomfortable.

I know it's crazy, but I'd love to attend a taser party myself, so if any of you Bay Area ladies decides to host one, send me an invite.

Ladies, what's your take here? Would you host or attend a taser party for all your friends? Let me know in the comments.

Yes, I definately would attend and/or host a Taser Party-I feel women are in greater danger now than in the past years from aggressive drivers to purse snatchers, car jackers, etc occuring regularly here in Florida.

I would definately host a taser party. I have three daughters and would feel alot better if they had some kind of protection with them other than their mace. I know they would feel alot safer as well.

Many good points have been made here. Yes, tasers are not fail proof; yes, a person shot with a taser has been known to either pull them out or twitch around on the ground and knock it out - hopefully, the victim will have been long gone by then but if not, then what? Yes, a taser CAN kill and has killed a person under certain conditions. Are they better than nothing? Probably. Are they better than pepper spray? Probably, providing you can hit your mark on the first and only shot you'll get. Are they better than a firearm? Probably not. What's interesting here is that those folks who think they would like to carry a taser also seem to have the impression that they are not carrying a "weapon" (that dirty word!) Well, a taser most certainly IS a weapon - it is a "gun" that shoots a projectile. What folks don't realize is that if you are carrying one in your purse, you cannot and should not carry your purse the way you nomally would. What if your children get into your purse and think its a cel phone, or a toy, or ipod, or some other curiosty? You must treat it as you would a firearm and keep it out of the hands of unauthorized users and children. I think people are under the impression that because it is a "taser" it is more harmless; that it is not a gun - well, they don't call them "stun guns" for nothing. So yes - you are STILL CARRYING A GUN whether you want to admit to it or not. Unfortuantely, who is going to teach all of these people to be safe with these instruments? I am a female. I am also a Certified Firearms Instructor. Would I carry a taser? Maybe in places where I was not allowed to carry my first choice for defense - my gun. Would I host a taser party? You bet! I think a lot of women (and men) would also be open-minded to learning more effective ways to protect themselves too - like owning a real gun. Tasers are not perfect, but they are a step in the right direction. "An armed society is a polite society." Don't worry, when the market gets saturated with tasers, they'll probably find a way to try to take them too.

I would definately host a taser party. I live in a 55+ community where many women live alone.
