Last week, I mentioned a recent study that found people with serious health
issues were turning to the blogosphere
for solace, and guess what other growing group is slowly taking over the blogosphere?
Women!
Over 36.2 million women are writing and reading blogs on a weekly basis,
and watching less television as a result.
BlogHer, an online blogging community for women, and Compass Partners published the results of their joint study earlier this year which found that more than one-third of all women in the U.S. aged 18 to 75 are blogging at least once a week.
Over 5,000 women from the BlogHer community participated in this survey, as well as 1,250 women who are pretty active online. And while these are two are very different groups, their responses were nearly identical which leads some to believe blogging is now officially mainstream among women.
But why are so many women blogging, you ask? Well, they all have different motivations. The majority says they do it for fun, to express themselves and to connect with others, while the minority says they use blogs as a personal diary or to give advice. But women are not only writing in their blogs, they're also reading them. Actually the survey indicates that over 80 percent of the women surveyed read blogs weekly, while 89 percent of Blogher users read blogs daily.
Could all this be true? None of my close friends blog, but as a blogger I've met plenty of women bloggers who are extremely passionate about what they do, and probably blog more than once a day.
I love blogging and I love watching TV, but thanks to TiVo I can put off my TV time until the blogging gets done. What about you? Does any of this ring true to you?
