More details regarding Dell's UMPCs are surfacing, and Engadget has just published a handful of mysterious slides detailing all the juicy specs.

First, there appears to be five models in the upcoming "Dell E" series: Dell E Classic, Dell E Video, Dell E Video plus, Dell E Slim, and Dell E Slim plus. This series definitely gives consumers looking at the Asus EEE PC and MacBook Air computers more choices, but the pricing will eventually determine if consumers close the deal with Dell.

Here are the specs in a nutshell:

Dell E Classic: This computer is targeting first-time PC buyers and is great for web browsing and doing basic things like sending email. It has an 8.9-inch screen, 4GB flash HDD, 802.11g Wi-Fi, no webcam, runs either Linux/Windows XP, and has 512MB DDR2. It will be available in blue.

Dell E Video: This computer is targeting students, travelers, teens, and those looking to buy a second computer. Features include an 8.9-inch screen, 8GB flash HDD, 802.11g Wi-Fi, webcam, runs either Linux/Windows XP, and has 1GB DDR2. Optional colors include pink, yellow, and blue

Dell E Video+: This computer is targeting students, travelers, teens, and those looking to buy a second computer. Again, good for Web browsing and entertainment, so it includes an 8.9-inch screen, 12GB flash HDD, 802.11g Wi-Fi, webcam, runs either Linux/Windows XP, weighs 2.2 pounds, and has 1GB DDR2. Available only in black.

Dell E Slim: Built for Education and prosumers, the Dell E Slim is good for social networking and productivity. It's main competitor is the MacBook Air. It sports a 12.1-inch screen, 1GB DDR2, 40GB 1.8-inch HDD, 802.11g Wi-Fi, web camera, and runs either Linux/Windows XP. Available in gray.

Dell E Slim +: Built for Education and prosumers, the Dell E Slim is good for social networking and productivity. Again, this competes against the MacBook Air and features a 12.1-inch screen, 2GB DDR2, 60GB 1.8 HDD, 802.11g Wi-Fi, web camera, and runs either Linux/Windows XP. Gray and black models will be available.

From the slides, it looks like they're slated for an August/September launch with a second version arriving sometime in the second quarter of 2009. Prices will start at $299.

Dell confirmed a UMPC was on the way but left out all the details. Nothing's been officially announced by Dell, so take all this information with a grain of salt for now.

I've had an Asus EEE PC for some time, but I hate the cramped keyboard which is something this model doesn't seem to have. If the rumors are true here, I might just sell it and get a Dell E.
