Acer drops the price on the Acer Aspire One

Those still shopping for computers this back-to-school season will be happy
to know Acer just dropped the price on all its netbooks including the ones running
Windows. I included the Acer Aspire One in my list of gift
ideas for high-school students back when it was $379, but today, the company
announced it was dropping the price to make it even affordable to students heading
back to school.
Compared to the Asus EEE PC, the Acer has a bigger keyboard, and an packs Intel Atom processor, 8.9-inch screen, two memory card slots, two USB ports, a webcam, and only weighs 2.17 pounds. Designed as a first PC solution for students or as a second computer for travelers and tech enthusiasts, the Acer Aspire One is great for socializing online and browsing the Internet.
According to the press release, the 8GB netbook running Linux will retail for $329, while both the 80GB and 160GB netbooks running Windows will retail for $349 and $399 respectively. I finally got rid of my Asus EEE PC, and will be checking out the Acer this weekend. Anyone else looking to buy netbooks? Which ones are you considering?

I bought the Acer Aspire One on 6/12/2009 for only $100.00 with an AT&T 3G Network plan for $60.00 per month. I haven't had any problems with connection and my Acer came with Windows XP Operating System and Microsoft Office 2007. I got the Acer Netbook, 2 Year Warranty, Carrying Case, and Flash Drive all for under $200.00 and I pay 60 per month for my 3G Network .. I felt like I stole something. LOL.

There's also a lot of chatter, on Amazon and around teh web, about this particular PC hacing trouble with the WiFi "going dark" - ie: WiFi gets disabled for no reason, intermittantly and needs a hard boot to re-start. Buyer beware.

this thing is tiny, i was playing around with it in best buy and was absolutely thrilled. other than that, id trade linux for the larger harddrive any day. although i have heard that upgrading memory is a pain in the rear...

I have an older model compac, in fact both my laptop and table top. I am a retired person and am starting back to college. looking seriously at the acer aspire. Costco has the 1 gb ram and 120 gb memory with 3 usb 2.0 ports and a slot for sd cards. xp windows and microsoft home. cost is $349.99. Light weigt for carrying in my pack to school. Might add that the smaller size just makes it that much easier to grow legs and walk away.
