Have you ever recycled your phone? Many people have despite their fear
of identity theft, and they do so through services like Recellular.
The company collected four million phones in 2007, and is expected to collect
six million phones by the end of this year which will be either reused or recycled.
ReCelluar has even released a list of the top 10 most recycled phones in 2008.
Guess what they are?
1. Nokia 6010 (2004)
2. Motorola RAZR V3( 2004)
3. LG VX4500 (2004)
4. Motorola RAZR V3M (2006)
5. Motorola C139 (2006)
6. LG VX3200 (2004)
7. Samsung A670 (2004)
8. Motorola V551 (2004)
9. LG VX5200 (2005)
10. LG VX3300 (2005)
Notice that most handsets were released in 2004, which is surprising since most
cell phones have an average lifespan of 18 months. It will be a while before
we see iPhones and Blackberry phones on the list though, but that shouldn't
discourage your from checking out their inventory if you want to buy a refurbished
handset.
Those who want to recycle their phone, should check out Cell Phone Round-Up, an initiative sponsored by Keeping America Beautiful, Sprint and ReCellular that raises awareness about cell phone recycling. To donate your phone, all you have to do is print a postage-paid shipping label, and send it off. Hey it's never to late to get rid of that old phone. If you want to know how to delete all your personal information before sending it off, check out this post.

Some of the phones are used by organizations that give them to women who are in abusive relationships or have been in one and are trying to get back on there feet. The phone gives them a way to get in touch with authorities in case of emergencies.
