Free DVD Player Software for Vista Business Edition

If you purchased a laptop with Vista preinstalled, chances are good it was the Business Edition of Vista. Bad news if you, you know, take your laptop with you on the road and heaven forbid you want to watch a DVD on the plane: Vista Business Edition doesn't include Windows Media Center, which lets you watch DVDs on your machine.
Why not install your own DVD software? Vista's nightmarish DRM schemes have reportedly made a lot of video playing software applications incompatible, and many users have reported that they can't get their existing DVD player apps to work under Vista.
As well, these things cost money. Not much, but even $15 is too much to pay for something that ought to be part of the operating system, in my opinion.
Luckily, I've found a solution for you: AVS DVD Player, which is completely free, works under Vista just fine, has no spyware of any kind, and is easy to use. If there's a catch with AVS, I haven't found it. Give it a whirl before your next business trip.

Hey Chris, I'm just amazed....you've solved a major problem for me and it's free!! I just upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Vista Business so I can network my laptop where I work, but heard from our IT guy that I lose the Media Center (what a joke!). Well, now I have a solution! When is Microsoft going to stop playing these games!?! I'll be thanking you on my next flight! Maybe you can set-out to accomplish world peace next!

Thank you so much! I got a new desktop with Vista Home Basic on it and it has no DVD player- boy, that was a shock! What was Microsoft thinking?!

as with others above, I've just bought a DVD on wellbeing so refuse to get angry about this even though I can't play it yet :) I couldn't believe because I have enterprise edition I can't play DVDs (or have to pay extra). Luckily I run that famous penguin OS on my main PC... unbelievable, thanks for the post - saved me hours of browsing tofind one that works.
