That's pretty good advice, I think. The best way to start is just to start. Eliminating clutter is definately good since it makes the important tasks more apparent, and there is a sense of being finished when old notes or emails can be tossed or filed. If you have a list, start with number one and just get going. Break large projects down in to step by step items. Set em up and knock em down. Even if you only get half done, at least you know what half done looks like, since you've broken the task down into managable bits. I always like to put my most daunting task first, since it makes to whole day look better when the ugly stuff is done by 10 AM.

This article is pointless because it is based upon the premise that people actually desire to be productive.

this article is helpful. but isant this just pretty much common sense? writing a to do list does help you get started at least for me. Also what helps me is to write as much notes as you can and put them on the computer and try to get rid of them at the end of the day. and write some goals also helps. and stay focused. dont rush your work or you will get nothing done

I think the best way to get started is with a big cup of coffee. Then prioritize your todo list. Just sit there and drink your yummy coffee and write down all the thinks you have to do today, or is due by today. Then, check your coffee and make sure it is still hot, if not get some more. Next, write down all the things you could get away with not doing today, but would be really cool if you could get done. Then, pick some thing and give it a shot. If this approach does not work, don't get too frustrated with yourself. Beating yourself up may seem right at the time but it is a waste of time. Do your job the best you can when you can. (As long as your not a doctor.) :P

Hmmm, i already did all this stuff, but i still never get anything done until my second cup of coffee and i have read the news from the local paper and yahoo. The only thing that gets me to do work when i first get into the office is "oh crap, this needs to really get done now" otherwise i just say to myself, well, it was here all night, what will another hour or so hurt??? So yeah, not exactly a helpful topic unless you have common sense issues, but i guess the writer did warn us it was common sense.

In terms of clutter.. I spend my fridays before leaving work to clean off the clutter (meaning I am less 'productive' on friday afternoon) and when I come in on Monday, I can mentally prepare to start a new week.
