Yeah, I'd almost forgotten all about those exploding batteries from 2006. But they're baaaaaaaaaaaaack, and twice as ugly.

This time, it's not Dell but Lenovo, and the batteries are not even from Sony but rather Sanyo. The problem, however, sounds familiar, with power packs overheating, particularly if dropped or "struck on the corner." Affected ThinkPad models include the R60 and R60e, T60 and T60p, and Z60m, Z61e, Z61m, and Z61p. If you have any of these model ThinkPads (sold since November 2005), please check the Lenovo battery recall site to see if your battery is at risk and subject to the recall. There are only 100,000 laptops affected, so don't expect the crazy rush that accompanied previous recalls.

Naturally, now's a good time for any laptop user to check again to make sure you're using a safe battery. In the commotion of '06, you may have forgotten to check all your laptops or may have switched to a different machine.
