Sadly, I'm not one of them... but this website has short profiles of several entrepreneurs using the web to pull in the cash hand over fist: In one case, to the tune of $10,000 a day.

How do they do it? Largely through running free websites studded with Google AdSense advertising. To wit, the moneymakers run businesses such as:

  • A free online dating site
  • A series of crazy domains designed to pull in traffic (like offering ringtones)
  • A mammoth weblog network
  • A home improvement website spawned from a radio show
  • An e-book about marketing that feeds to a website

And there are plenty of other examples too.

How is it possible to make $100,000 to $300,000 a month in internet advertising? The page linked below outlines it in broad strokes: Content and community, a successful recipe for websites ranging from Reddit to Yahoo! Tech. Can you replicate this success yourself? You need a killer hook: Some content that you can't get anywhere else. Then you need to involve the users via comments, discussions, contests, and the like. Whether you go broad, like Digg.com, or narrow, like the hi-fi geeks at the AVS Forum, the trick is to find an audience and then serve that audience religiously.
