Nintendo: "Regular supply" of Wii Fit on the way

Well, that's what Nintendo's saying, anyway. For now, the red-hot balance-board game is even harder to find than the Wii itself.

The bloggers at MTV Multiplayer recently asked Nintendo when more copies of Wii Fit would hit U.S. stores (this after a "desperate" mom accosted MTV gaming writer Stephen Totilo on the street and begged him for help in tracking down a Wii Fit).

The answer? "We are providing retailers with a constant supply of 'Wii Fit,' so you should see a regular supply of 'Wii Fit' on store shelves as we move through the summer and into the holidays."

Oh, really? Well, I just checked this Wii Fit stock tracker, and as of Wednesday afternoon, the game is backordered at Buy.com and GameStop.com, and completely sold out at a dozen other online stores, including Toys R Us, Amazon, Circuit City, Target, and Wal-Mart. That's an even worse situation than for the Wii itself, which was actually in stock at eight online stores Wednesday.

As MTV points out, Wii Fit sold a whopping 369,600 copies last month in the U.S., second only to NCAA Football 09 for the Xbox 360.

There's also been chatter that Nintendo may have sent four times as many Wii Fit units to Europe because of the weak dollar.

In any case, if you were thinking of getting Wii Fit for your favorite back-to-schooler or as a holiday present, you'd better start looking.

What about you—still looking for Wii Fit? Any tips (or spottings, at least) for those in the hunt?
