Bill Gates's sprawling Washington state compound is, as you might expect, packed to the gills with bleeding-edge gear, from the heated floors and 20-seat home theater to the X-ray machine (for screening the mail, of course) and miles of fiber-optic cabling. But here's what you definitely won't find at chez Gates: an iPhone.

I have my Palm Treo 755P (that is "P" for Palm, not Windows), so I am enjoying a real keyboard and a touchscreen, video capabilities, email (although not push), picture mail by sms, live TV, NFL Live, and plenty of apps (going back to '97 when I bought my first Palm). I can't wait for the Pre (mostly to get true 3G, and push email, otherwise I am happy with my Treo). Most of my friends who have iPhones are disappointed. That maybe from the device being over-hyped, that they are not savvy enough to fully exploit its capabilities, that it sucks, or, most likely a combination. I have used it, and it is flashy, but I prefer practicality, like a real keyboard.
Good for Bill
drkbowers - So your saying their are 50 million disappointed iPhone buyers out there? Uh, I don't think so. Have fun with the nerd phone. It's not always about substance, you gotta have style too.
doesn't microsoft own danger, which produces the sidekick line. i'm guessing his kids would own one of those.
Glad I'm not married to Bill, I couldn't live without my iPhone. Way to go on the mosquitoes though!
C'Mon! Is it really fair to post advertisements for the iTouch next to Bill's article? ----
insecure wank....
I have a Blackjack II and it's an awesome phone, windows mobile and all! Plays music, surfs the net, annnnnnd makes phone calls too!
thats retarded. the only reason hes super rich is because he stole other peoples ideas! ----- scam artist
The Zune is crap. Without Windos Microsoft is a flop.
it's all about the zen mosaic!!!! all the way baby. ----- apple.
It'd be nice if he felt the same sense of commitment to all of us who were suckered into using Vista, probably the biggest piece of cr*p to hit computing in the last century. Bill Gates may be one of the richest people on the planet, but when he dies he will NOT be remembered fondly by millions of people.
Thats cruel and unusual punishment
Wait, so can his kids have a Nintendo Wii or PS3? You know...since they are rivals of Microsofts Xbox. Wait a second...can they even have a DS or PSP!? Lol!
it's like the family guy bit: mr gates, mr gates, could you show me how to work this zune? oh wait, that right, i have an ipod, just like everybody else in the world. of course, i'm cheap, so i have 40gb zune that cost under a 100 bucks.
lame story. who cares.
I always suspected that Gates got the Windows idea from Steve Jobs.
Doesn't Allow??? Thought this super Preppie was as liberal as they come, and he would TELL his wife she is not allowed to bring an iphone into the house??? Just goes to show you, no matter what these liberals say, they are not for real.
i love you bill gates
