Streaming video site Hulu is a hit with viewers thanks to its free, ad-supported TV shows and movies, but a key executive at News Corp.—one of Hulu's primary backers, not to mention owner of the Fox TV network—thinks that charging visitors for at least some of Hulu's shows is, "over time," a "logical thing."

If they expand their series offerings, perhaps going back in the archives and bringing back shows that arent necessarily available on DVD, I personally wouldnt mind paying for those episodes. But the pay per episode price of $1.99 for shows that are currently available on DVD makes little sense. Why would you pay the equivalent of $50 for a season of a show? If you're a big fan of a show, would you really only download one or two episodes of it? Probably not. You would want a whole season. At least IMHO.
Good points dgutf. However, one might pay the $1.99 if they missed just one or two episodes of an ongoing show. I know I would have coughed it up if I missed an episode of 24 this year. With that said, I think Hulu would take a seriou----- if they started charging. I know I blew off a couple episodes of Dollhouse when it aired, knowing I could watch them on Hulu. Hulu and ABC.com are a godsend for people like me who travel for a living, and do not have access to a DVR (or a VCR for that matter). If they start charging, I would not intentionally miss a show knowing I could stream it the next day for free.
I would simply stop using hulu.
I would not buy any shows from Hulu. If I kept visiting I would only watch the free shows. Now what might make sense for them to do is continue to offer the free ad supported videos and the option to pay and not have ads.
we will stop using hulu my family will watch hulu for hours at a time with ads SO LONG AS IT'S FREE!!!!!!
It seems impossible to start charging for what was once free, Especially with alternate, albeit illegal alternatives like torrents..
I would not pay to use hulu. If they want to make more money why don't they just double the number of ads they show during the show, so you have one minute of commercials instead of 30 seconds. Just a thought.
If Hulu starts charging for their services, that will be the end of Hulu. Another free option will come along and everyone will move over to that.
Start charging? = byebye to people like me, I wont watch stuff on there every week and look at ads during the breaks. God, why does everyone want to charge for everything!!!!!???
