Hey, Macfans: in a funk because Leopard just got delayed? Has your ardor for the iPhone cooled to a simmer? Need a new, juicy rumor to chew on? Here's an oldie but goodie that's getting some renewed play: a Wi-Fi-enabled iPod, just-maybe-possibly coming this fall.

Now, before you get too excited, keep in mind that the site that's pushing the rumor, DigiTimes, is notorious for running Apple predictions that never quite materialize (as Engadget judiciously points out). But while I wouldn't pin my hopes on a Wi-Fi iPod arriving in the third quarter, I'd say it's a safe bet that we'll be getting some kind of new iPod before the year is out—one with much more memory than 8GB, and hopefully with the iPhone's wide-screen, touch-sensitive form factor. So if you're lusting after the iPhone's music and video capabilities but don't relish the thought of a two-year service agreement with AT&T, you might be wise to stow your wallet until later this year.
