Apple's magnetic power connectors may keep your MacBook Pro from getting yanked off a desk, but apparently they're also overheating, sparking, and even emitting smoke. New adapters are apparently on the way.

apple sux anyway you put it
i have a macbook os x and those chargers overheat! they seriously burn you if u even get close to the actual charger. they come off easily (not so magnetic) and sometimes they even pull the laptop with them! i love apple and all but yea... not so trustworthy! ; )
juanparramiami, Might I suggest you learn how to speak and write English, and also quit insulting those who choose to use PC's over Macs. Your fellow Mac users are embarrassed by you, I'm sure. Also, before you acuse the writer of the article of having a vendetta against Apple, look at his picture at the top. What kind of computer is he using???
with what stejowal said, i'm embarassed of juanparramiami. I have no idea what he's saying, makes me lose 50 iq points. The apple magsafe power adapters are faulty and need to be recalled by giving customers the newer redesigned ones because i don't want to pay about $90 for an extra adapter. Mine got frayed today, apparently from weak reinforcement near the magnetic end of the adapter and from excessive heat.
i own a macbook black, and after 1 and a half years, the power adapter suddenly stopped working... i have nothing agaisnt apple, but the company definetely has to pay attention to these issues. when i bought the macbook the first issue was that the screen didnt turn on, then it was the optical drive. everythin was ok, since i had the warranty and everything was done for free, but then the battery began to malfunction and now the adapter... im VERY DISAPPOINTED at apple...so sad. i had to spend $230 buyin a new battery and an adapter. if they brake again i swear im goin to smash the laptop at the 'genius bar'... PAY ATTENTION TO THE QUALITY OF YOUR PRODUCTS APPLE!

I hope people realize that most power adapters are designed to pull out when yanked too, and they aren't magnetic either. The adapter on my laptop comes out pretty easy when pulled so I'm sure they could make them like the old plug-type ones - and just have a shortened length inside the laptop.
